Unmistakably personal and yet accessible to a wide audience. Dance maker Ryan Djojokarso manages to translate important social topics into playful and poignant performances with a healthy helping of humour and a down-to-earth light-heartedness. This time he takes his Surinamese roots as a point of departure and the question, “faf a libi?” (how’s life?).
Stories by people from Surinam who immigrated to the Netherlands at one point in their lives form the basis for the script. Their story of migration is brought to the stage through a storm of memories. LIBI is a multidisciplinary biography with dance and live music in a large visual stage setting about the lives of migrants in the Netherlands.
LIBI is created in collaboration with Korzo, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Zuiderstrandtheater and made possible by the Dutch Performing Arts with support of the Municipality of The Hague and the VSB Fonds.

LIBI is tot stand gekomen in samenwerking met Korzo, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam en het Zuiderstrandtheater, en mede mogelijk gemaakt door het Fonds Podiumkunsten, met ondersteuning van de Gemeente Den Haag en het VSB Fonds.
Onmiskenbaar persoonlijk en toch toegankelijk voor een breed publiek. Dansmaker Ryan Djojokarso weet belangrijke maatschappelijke onderwerpen te vertalen in speelse en aangrijpende voorstellingen, met een gezonde dosis humor en nuchterheid. Deze keer vertrekt hij vanuit zijn eigen Surinaamse roots en vanuit de vraag “faf a libi?” (hoe staat het leven?). Verhalen van en door Surinamers die op een punt in hun leven naar Nederland immigreerden vormen de basis van het script. Hun verhaal van migratie wordt middels een wervelwind aan herinneringen naar het toneel gebracht. Van opgroeien in Suriname tot besluiten om te emigreren, de reis, de aankomst, de heimwee, acclimatiseren, het gevoel van verlies…
